Expert surf instruction in the lineup at Berawa Beach. Whether you've never touched a board or you're pushing into barrels — we'll get you where you want to be.
Billy grew up on the island of Nias in Sumatra, where the ocean wasn't just a playground — it was home. He's been reading waves since ages, and teaching people how to ride them for over a decade.
Now based in Berawa, Canggu, Billy brings that deep, intuitive understanding of the water to every lesson. He doesn't teach from a script. He watches how you move, reads what the ocean is doing, and gives you what you actually need in that moment.
Small group sizes, real feedback, and no ego. Just honest surf instruction from someone who genuinely loves this sport and loves watching people find their footing on a wave for the first time.
And if you're lucky, you'll be joined by Kuaci — Billy's dog, a permanent fixture at Berawa Beach who takes his job as unofficial mascot very seriously.
All prices apply regardless of skill level — same session, same quality, whether you're stepping on a board for the first time or working on your turns.
Not sure which lesson is right for you? Use this guide to find your level — and if you're still unsure, just ask.
Yes — basic swimming ability is required for safety. You don't need to be a strong swimmer, but you should be comfortable in the water. If you're unsure, message us before booking and we'll talk it through.

If conditions are genuinely unsuitable — flat, dangerous swell, or lightning — we'll reschedule at no extra cost. Billy checks conditions daily and will reach out if there's an issue. Most days in Bali are surfable.
Surfing is for everyone. We teach kids and adults of all ages. Younger children (under 10) should be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water. Family lessons are available on request.
Payment is accepted in cash (IDR) on the day of the lesson, or via bank transfer in advance. Contact us if you have specific payment questions.

"Billy is the real deal. Grew up surfing in Nias, knows the ocean inside out, and transfers that knowledge really well. Not your typical tourist surf school."
"I've done a few sessions with Billy now as an intermediate surfer and every time I leave with something concrete to work on. He sees things in your surfing you don't notice yourself."
"Came as a group of 4 friends, all different skill levels. Billy handled all of us perfectly and made sure everyone got attention. Best afternoon of the whole trip."
